Walls Done Right
Custom walls for Long Beach homes — retaining walls on hillside lots, garden walls, planters, driveway columns, privacy walls, and full brick or stone façades. Licensed masons, engineered design for any wall over three feet, and drainage detailing that keeps the wall standing for decades.
How We Work
Site walk, design, permit, build. One crew chief from start to cleanup.
1. Site walk and design
We walk the property, take measurements, talk through the look (material, cap, mortar joint), and draft a design.
2. Engineering and permit
Walls over three feet need engineered drawings and a Long Beach permit. We handle both. Footing depth and drainage designed for your soil.
3. Build
Excavation, footing pour, drainage installation, course-by-course wall build, capping, and pointing. Final cleanup and walk-through.
When You Need Walls
A masonry wall is the right call when:
- You have a slope to retain — terracing a hillside, holding back a driveway, or stabilizing a yard.
- You want a real garden wall — defines beds, raises a planting level, and looks finished.
- Driveway or entry columns — paired pillars with optional lighting or gate pivots.
- Privacy or sound wall — solid masonry blocks sound far better than wood fences.
- Outdoor kitchen or fireplace surround — masonry is heat-tolerant and looks finished.
- Façade or veneer on a home — full-coverage brick or stone veneer changes the home’s whole presence.

What Affects the Cost of Walls
Wall pricing is per linear foot plus height and material. Depends on:
- Linear footage and height. Cost scales with how much material and labor goes into the wall.
- Material. Standard CMU block is cheapest; brick is mid-range; cut stone and reclaimed brick are top-tier.
- Footing and engineering. Walls over three feet need engineering and deeper footings.
- Drainage. Retaining walls need drainage behind the wall — French drains, weep holes, and gravel backfill.
- Cap and finish details. Cap stone, mortar joint style, and pointing add to the look and the cost.
- Site access. Tight or hillside access slows the crew and adds labor time.
We'll quote linear-foot pricing after the site walk — flat-rate, including the footing, drainage, and cleanup.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to build a wall in Long Beach?
Most residential walls are 1–3 weeks from breaking ground to cleanup. Engineering and permit can add 2–4 weeks before that.
Do I need a permit?
Walls over three feet typically need a permit and engineered drawings in Long Beach. We handle the permit and engineering coordination.
What's the difference between block, brick, and stone?
CMU block is the structural workhorse, often veneered with brick or stone. Brick is timeless and good value. Cut stone is premium and unique. We’ll show you samples in your light.
Will the wall last?
Yes — properly engineered and drained masonry walls last 50+ years. The two failure modes are bad drainage and undersized footing, both of which we engineer around.
Are you licensed?
Yes — we’re a licensed California masonry contractor, fully insured and bonded. License number and insurance certificate on request.
