Stonework Done Right

Custom stonework for Long Beach homes — stone fireplaces, full-veneer walls, entry pillars, fountain surrounds, and one-off feature walls. Real stone hand-set with proper backing, flashing, and weep details so it lasts the life of the house.

How We Work

Site walk, design, permit, build. One crew chief from start to cleanup.

1. Design and stone selection

We walk the project, talk through the look (cut, color, joint width), and bring samples to the site so you see them in your own light.

2. Prep and substrate

Proper substrate, lath, scratch coat, and flashing. Done right the first time so water never gets behind the stone.

3. Set and point

Stone set by hand, joints raked and pointed to spec, and a final clean. Mortar matched to stone color for a finished look.

When You Need Stonework

Stonework is the right call when:

  • You want a stone fireplace — indoor or outdoor, full-height or seat-wall surround.
  • You’re refacing the home front — partial or full stone veneer transforms a tract façade.
  • You want entry pillars or a stone column — paired stone pillars at the driveway add real presence.
  • You’re building a feature wall or backsplash — outdoor kitchen back, fountain surround, or patio focal point.
  • You want a stone-clad chimney chase — wraps a metal chase in real masonry character.
  • You’re preparing to sell — stonework photographs beautifully and signals a quality home.

What Affects the Cost of Stonework

Stonework pricing is per square foot of finished face. Depends on:

  • Square footage. Bigger faces use more stone and more setting time.
  • Stone type. Cultured stone is most affordable; quarried thin veneer is mid-range; full-thickness natural stone is premium.
  • Substrate and prep. New-construction substrate is fastest; retrofit over existing wall takes longer.
  • Joint detail. Dry-stacked, raked, grapevine, or flush-pointed mortar joints all change the look and labor.
  • Height and access. Ground-level work is fastest. Two-story or chimney-top work needs scaffolding.
  • Corners and openings. Corner stones, window returns, and arches cost more than straight wall runs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Real stone or cultured stone?

Both have a place. Real stone is timeless, more expensive, and has weight (sometimes needs structural review). Cultured stone is lighter, cheaper, and very convincing when done right. We’ll talk through the right call for your project.

Will the stone fall off?

Not when it’s installed right. We use proper lath, scratch coat, weather barrier, and flashing. The two failure modes are bad water management and skipping the scratch coat — we don’t cut either corner.

How long does a stone fireplace take?

Most full-height stone fireplaces are 2–4 weeks including substrate prep and cleanup.

Can you match stone to the existing house?

Usually yes — we source from multiple stone yards and bring samples to compare in your light before ordering.

Do I need a permit for stone veneer?

Cosmetic veneer over an existing structure usually does not. Structural stonework (load-bearing walls, chimneys) does. We handle permits when needed.
